Pet dog mauls baby

A newborn baby was attacked by the family dog as she slept in her bassinet early this morning.

The seven-day-old baby girl was bitten in the face by the family’s Alaskan Malamute at their Campbelltown property.

Her parents had placed the infant in the bassinet at the end of their bed following an early morning feed, but woke to the sound of her screaming.

The found the dog inside the bassinet.

Police said paramedics took the baby to Cambelltown Hospital for treatment to facial wounds before being taken to The Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick.

Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

This case follows the death of a baby in England’s northeast last week.
