Breastfeeding is a deeply fulfilling experience that benefits both mother and baby. Understandably, we might assume that all a baby requires is your breasts and an abundance of love, but in reality, when it comes to starting out on your breastfeeding journey, there are several breastfeeding essential items that can significantly enhance the experience and make it more seamless for new mums. While breastfeeding primarily relies on the mother’s breasts and love, there are additional tools that can provide you with valuable support.

First up…Establish a good breastfeeding support network

Great support is indeed the most crucial breastfeeding essential. Join the Australian Breastfeeding Association, put their Breastfeeding Helpline number on your phone, and go to one of their local face-to-face support groups. Speak to your local Maternal Heath Nurse and find a good lactation consultant too, even if things are going well. They can help to identify any issues early on and help you to gain confidence as a new mum.
