The first week after having my second baby my right nipple was so sore that the midwife suggested only feeding from the left and pumping from the right. Fast forward 5 months and that little new born is now teething and feeling the need to take it out on my nipples! Lanolin has been a life, or nipple, saver since I started using Medela Purelan Lanolin Cream.

First look

Medela Purelan Lanolin comes in a 7g tube, which is perfect for the pram caddy or your handbag and a 37g tube, which is just the right size for around the home or in the nappy bag.

The consistency of Purelan Lanolin cream is thick and lightly yellow, due to the thickness a little goes a long way.

Ease of use

The Lanolin cream is thick, easily spreadable and instantly creates a protective layer over the nipple. Depending on the temperature of where you keep the cream it can be a little difficult to squeeze out of the tube. By simply holding the tube in your hand for a minute helps to easily get the cream out of the tube.

The Medela Purelan Lanolin cream doesn’t transfer onto your bra, clothing or baby’s face once applied, as long as you leave it to dry for 30 seconds to a minute. This was really handy for me, as I would put it on after each feed.

Benefits

Medela Purelan Lanolin Cream is completely safe to use while breastfeeding (you don’t need to wipe it off before feeding), as it contains no preservatives, additives or fragrances. It’s also ethically sourced from mulesling-free farms (basically the sheep get to keep their tails), which is really important for me.

The cream is 100% single ingredient, dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skins.

Medela Purelan Lanolin Mum Review

After reading the instructions sheet I discovered that Purelan Lanolin Cream is not only effective at creating a protective layer on the skin’s surface and rehydrates it from within, it also can be used on your lips and dry skin! So I tried applying it to some dry skin on my ankle and it worked just as well as it did on my nipples!

Effectiveness

This product actually does exactly what it says it will! After around 4 days I started to feel relief and my nipples felt hydrated. As soon as my little one started biting down and causing damage I reapplied the cream and felt relief within a day.

Recommendations

We’ve had the aircon running and the cream became a little harder to get out of the tube and apply. I found rubbing the cream between my fingers ‘warmed’ it up a little and made it easier to apply.

Medela Purelan Lanolin should be in every breastfeeding mum’s bag and should be attached to every congratulations card!
