When I had the opportunity to trial the Braun Thermoscan 7, my little one had just been diagnosed with tonsillitis and was going through her first cold. This thermometer has given me much more confidence in how my little one is tracking.

First Look

My first impressions of the Braun Thermoscan 7 was that it looks very professional. Even Granddad was impressed, stating that it reminded him of the thermometers the doctors used.

The Braun Thermoscan 7 is a simple, easy to use thermometer that packs so many features into it. I have learnt so much more about temperatures while using it.

It is an extremely comfortable fit in your hand, and the compact storage cradle makes for a neat display in the nursery.

Ease of Use

I have to confess, I am not someone who tends to read manuals; so to say that this product was extremely simple to use is an understatement, not to mention that it came completely charged and ready to go…which was a HUGE plus!

Using the Braun Thermoscan 7 is literally a 3 button process; Press ON, select the AgeSmart Button, insert the probe into the ear canal and push the start button. No Set up required, and the temperatures automatically save into the memory function, which stores the last 9 recorded.

An added benefit is that when you turn the Braun Thermoscan 7 on, the memory recall function will automatically display the last recorded temperature before you start. To be noted though, that this does stay on the screen for approx. 7 seconds before you are able to start a new scan.

The unique positioning system makes taking the temperature of little ones even easier (especially during sleep deprived nights) as it has a small light and sound confirming correct positioning and that an accurate temperature has been taken within seconds; even better that the beep is not intrusive enough to wake a child.

Useful Features/Benefits

The Braun Thermoscan 7 is a simple, easy to use thermometer that packs so many features into it. I have learnt so much more about temperatures while using it.

The most interesting and beneficial feature is the AgeSmart technology, which allows you to select the age category for your child (or adult). This has a predetermined range of temperatures that are also colour coded; Green for normal, Yellow or moderate fever, and Red for high. I was not aware that there were different classifications for high fever across age brackets.

The colour coding and night light (illuminated screen) makes it quick and simple to understand and easy to read, no matter how dark the room is; no flashing bright lights into your little ones eyes.

Another interesting benefit of the Braun Thermoscan 7 is that it has an ExactTemp pre-warmed tip which provides a more accurate reading.A little lesson I learnt was that ears accurately reflect core body temperature as the eardrum shares blood supply with the temperature control centre in the brain and will show the quickest changes in temperature versus other sites (axillary, oral or rectal).

This was a huge concern of mine with the current Cherub thermometer we own. We were getting a range of readings, which would fluctuate between high fever, and normal temperatures, which can be very stressful for a first time parent.

A handy tip that I discovered – the box of lens filters can fit snuggly inside the storage cradle so everything is neatly kept in one place and out of reach.

Value for Money

This is not the cheapest digital thermometer on the market, but it is fast and accurate.

The sense of security and accuracy this product has given me as a first time mum makes it totally worth every penny.

Especially when compared to the Cherub thermometer (which is roughly $40 cheaper), I just do not have the confidence in the accuracy of the temperature readings as they vary so much in their results.

The only thing to account for with the Braun Thermoscan 7 is the ongoing cost of the lens filters.

Recommendation

Having a product that provides a fast and accurate temperature reading and is gentle & comfortable enough for an infant’s ear canal is so important, and both my husband and I have 100% confidence in this product, and that makes a world of difference when looking after a sick bub.

I would highly recommend to all mums.

Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
