Your baby’s skin is significantly different from your skin. It’s thinner, more sensitive, and more prone to dryness and irritation. Additionally, baby skin produces less melanin, the pigment responsible for protecting against harmful UV rays, which makes babies more vulnerable to sunburn and sun damage.

Moisturise regularly

Baby skin loses moisture more rapidly than adult skin, making moisturising an essential step in their skincare routine. After bathing, pat your baby’s skin dry and apply a gentle, hypoallergenic moisturiser to lock in moisture. Look for products that are free from harsh chemicals, dyes, and fragrances.

Sun protection

Shielding your baby’s delicate skin from the sun’s harmful rays is crucial. Avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours (10 am to 4 pm), dress your baby in in a hat and lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that covers their arms and legs, and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 on exposed areas. However, it’s best to consult a paediatrician before applying sunscreen to infants under six months old.

Nappy area care
