First look at the Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature Bottles found the packaging was attractive, simple, but it worked. Six in a box is excellent as it meant we really only had to sterilise once a day rather than twice! An 8 pack would probably be even better, especially if you have Day Care to factor in. Would have been great to have some additional information on a leaflet inside the box. As the only information we had was on the box itself. Sometimes it nice to have a leaflet to refer back to.
I found the bottles great to hold. They felt light in your hand and didn’t cause your hand to cramp up. As they are wider than some other bottles, my daughter couldn’t really attempt to hold it herself, which she likes to do.
My daughter took to the bottles well. I was concerned about her taking in too much air and getting bad wind, but the small valve on the teat itself does an excellent job of removing the air. I found she was less windy using these bottles compared to other ‘anti colic’ bottles on the market. My daughter is a reflux baby, and I found her reflux did improve while using the bottles and I suspect it’s because she took in less air and was more relaxed during feeds.
The design of the teat is similar to that of a breast and I particularly liked how soft and flexible the teat was. My daughter looked more comfortable with it moulding around her face rather than digging in.
The bottles are easy to clean, not a lot of moving parts. The neck of the bottle was wide enough to get a bottle brush or any brush really, into and give a good scrub. There was only the 2 parts to the teat which makes cleaning and reassembly easy and quick.
Over the week the bottles always looked clean, they didn’t get that used yellowing look others often get. It will be interesting to see if they wear well in the long term.
I found the caps a bit flimsy. It was difficult to tell if the teats were screwed on properly with the cap on and we had several incidents where formula went everywhere and the bottles leaked in my bag.
I would love to see a complete package, bottles, and different sized teats. With all bottles on the market you have to purchase different sized teats separately. As a busy mum of 2, I would love to have just been able to pick up a complete package box with everything I’d need for the first 6 months. I think the added cost of doing this would be worth it as we are all looking for ways to simplify our busy lives.
Overall I was very impressed with the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottle, it worked well for our daughter and the fact it was easy to clean was a huge win. I would definitely recommend these bottles to any new mum looking at mixed feeding or exclusively bottle feeding.
