I have been looking at getting a double breast pump for a while in preparation for my return to work. So I jumped at the chance to trial the Medela Swing Maxi – Double Electric Breast Pump.
First Look
The Medela Swing Maxi appears simple and easy to use and doesn’t have too many parts, so it is pretty intuitive – it takes only seconds to set up! I was surprised at how quiet it was which is great because it doesn’t wake the lil guy up when in use – I love it!
Effectiveness
I didn’t have much experience with breast pumps prior to this but I needed something easy to assemble, simple to use and that didn’t take ages to extract the milk. I was very apprehensive at first as I have been 100% breastfeeding up until this point (my baby is 7 months) but the Medela Swing Maxi Double Electric Breast Pump has been a hit!
I love how efficient and fast the use of a double pump makes expressing. Now that I am returning to work, this means everything – more time to get ready!!
The Medela Swing Maxi can also be used as a single, my baby can be feeding on one side whilst I express on the other, it doesn’t disturb either of us.
My partner is impressed too and is looking forward to feeding our baby himself.
Its rechargeable battery is excellent and lasts for a good amount of time. The USB charger is extremely convenient as I can plug it in pretty much anywhere using my phone charger plug.
Outcomes/Benefits
Talking with other mamas, I had heard that certain breast pumps could be quite noisy but I was surprised to see that this product was quieter than expected.
I was blown away by the fact that it could reproduce baba’s sucking rhythm and it comes with a few different parts including breast shields that are comfortable to use, fast to set up and it is safe to clean in a dishwasher – Zero fuss!
Finally, the main part, which commends it all was its ease of use. The four-button intuitive interface and pre-settings meant I literally picked it up and used it without having to crawl through loads of instructions.
When it comes to cleaning it really is simple, the milk goes directly into the bottles and therefore, there isn’t any fuss with cleaning tubes.
The main benefit for me is that I can now extract milk efficiently and store it for the days ahead, like when the lil guy goes to day-care or I want to spend time out of the house with friends.
Dad can now look after him and I don’t need to worry there isn’t enough milk.
Recommendations
The product is great, I don’t have any recommendations really other than the control/suction device could be a little smaller but it isn’t a big deal. I 100% recommend it to other mums because it took one of the stresses of going back to work away as I can now rely on this for baby’s milk when I’m not there.
The price is justified by the clean and simple design, it’s not clunky. It feels like it’s built very well and it will last for as long as I need it. Pay now for a quality device and don’t have to buy again later.
