Everything about the new Medela Freestyle Flex double breast pump says ’state of the art’ from the moment I opened the box right through to the actual functionality and use.
First look
This super small and sleek breast pump can fit almost anywhere when I’m on the move with my active toddler and newborn bub (or if I’m lucky enough to sneak away for a long lunch with the girls). The handy cooling bag that comes with it helps me store my expressed milk safely until I can get home to my fridge.
Ease of use
I found it super easy to use the pump without any issues. The display screen is clear and the functions are easy to manage. The fact that I can sync the Freestyle Flex pump with the Medela App on my phone makes it easy to keep track of my express schedule and there’s also a helpful FAQ section which has loads of helpful information and tips for new mums.
Useful features:
One if my favorite features with the Medela Freestyle Flex pump is the built-in rechargeable battery which allows me to move around freely and express on the go, especially when I use the easy expression bustier.
If the battery runs out, there’s a handy USB port which allows me to easily recharge when I’m out and about.
I’m also a huge fan of the PersonalFit Flex beast shields as there are different sizes to fit all types of breasts. I was always worried that pumping might be painful, but I used the sizing guide provided in the manual to chose the correct shield and it made the whole experience super comfortable.
Effectiveness:
The 2-Phase expression feature helps me mimic my bub’s suction motion so that I am able to have a letdown and express more efficiently. The fact that this pump is a double, electric and super quiet makes pumping quick and easy.
Recommendations:
I would definitely recommend this pump for active mums who want to get things done while expressing. Time is such a valuable commodity when you have a newborn, so finding time to express can be tricky, but with the cordless function I managed to drink my tea (while it was still hot!), put on a load of washing and even get food ready, all whilst pumping. Having an active toddler, I need to be mobile and ensure that I’m making the most of every moment.
Overall
The Medela Freestyle Flex is absolutely a state of the art product with all the handy features to make pumping as smooth, quick and comfortable as possible. The fact that it’s so small and portable is a huge benefit and makes it easy to carry around, whether you’re expressing at home or on the go. They’ve really thought of everything when it comes to ensuring us mothers have everything we need to make expressing as easy as possible.
