The Braun Thermoscan 7 comes complete with a protective case, a box of 20 extra disposable lens filters and the required 2x AA batteries; so it is ready for use immediately after opening. The packaging is nicely illustrated with key features.

Having a 2 month old and 5 year old, the Agesmart technology feature was of particular interest to me as fever classification varies with age. Knowing that our trusted GP uses a Braun Thermoscan in his clinic gave me comfort that this was a quality thermometer and that we would get reliable results. Along with a manual and warranty card there was a quick start guide, which made it simple and easy to use straight away.

USEFUL FEATURES

My children, not being the most patient with taking temperatures, appreciate the ExactTemp pre-warmed tip. As well as giving a more accurate temperature reading, it is more comfortable than the cold metal tips on old thermometers. Also, getting the readout in 1 second is so handy, especially if you have a squirmy child or a sleeping baby you don’t want to wake.

The Agesmart technology is amazing. I love that it gives you an instant indication with the colour display depending on whether it is a normal temperature, a moderate fever or a high fever. This saves time trying to interpret the reading letting you quickly action a fever reading or giving instant peace of mind with a green normal temperature range result.

Also, having the three age settings means you don’t have to remember the fever definition ranges for the different age groups but can easily select the one that applies to your child. It useful for the whole family, easily operated and convenient.

The memory recall is another great feature. My son was recently unwell with a fever and I could check if he was improving, decide whether to give him paracetamol or take him to the doctor.

The night light meant that I could take both my baby girl’s temperature and my son’s without disrupting their sleep by turning on lights.

It also has a positioning light and sound confirmation so you know when you see the light and hear the beep that you have positioned the Thermoscan into the ear canal correctly and obtained an accurate reading.

The disposable lens filters ensures every use is hygienic and that we’re not spreading germs from person to person. They are easy to replace and the release allows you to flick it into the rubbish without handling it yourself with the push of a button; ready for the next one.

The protective storage case is wall mountable and includes space to store the lens filters. I have mounted ours next to the medicine cabinet, out of the way of little hands. The Thermoscan clicks into it securely so there is no chance of it falling out or being damaged when not in use.

Lastly, it comes with a 2 year warranty for those times when things just don’t work as planned.

IMPROVEMENTS

From the Thermoscan 5, the 7 now has Agesmart technology with green, yellow and red instant colour indicators, it stores the last 9 temperature readings versus just the most recent one on the Thermoscan 5.

The design has changed slightly, but it is still ergonomic, and fits comfortably in the palm of your hand for ease of use. This is useful if you need your other arm to hold your child or comfort them when they are unwell.

OVERALL

In comparison to our old digital thermometer which took a long time of uncomfortable pressing under a child’s underarm until you heard the finishing beep, this is a whole new world. The Thermoscan 7 is the Rolls Royce of thermometers! It is simple and intuitive to use, and comfortable, quick and painless for young ones. I would highly recommend this thermometer, Braun has designed a practical and effective device.

Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
