The Braun ThermoScan 7 promises a fast, gentle and easy to use thermometer and you know what – they’ve delivered!
Initially I was worried about getting the tip of the thermometer into my 6 month olds ear as he can be quite hard to keep still but once I had it in there it really was only one second before I had a reading. The thermometer beeped to let me know the reading had been completed and then flashed the reassuring green screen to let me know that the temperature had been taken correctly and there was no fever.
The backlit screen makes it really easy to see the temperature reading in a dark room and the beep to indicate the temperature has been taken isn’t so intrusive that it would wake your baby if you were taking their temperature while they were asleep.
Useful Features
I know most children’s thermometers on the market include the green, yellow and red screens to signify the level of a child’s fever these days – but as a first time mum I really love this feature. The coloured screen means that I don’t have to panic and Google what classifies as a fever once I have the reading. I’m able to just concentrate on looking after my little one.
The memory recall function of the thermometer is also a great feature. We’ve been really lucky not to have too many temperature scares but I know how reassuring it is when you can look back at the initial worrying temperature before checking to make sure it has come back down again. The Braun ThermoScan 7 automatically displays the last recorded temperature when you turn the thermometer on, so you know right from the start what base temperature you’re working from.
I’ve got to admit I had always thought the little caps that go on ear thermometers were simply for hygiene purposes so I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they are actually “pre-warming” tips which are designed to minimise the cooling effect the tip of the thermometer can have on the ear canal and in turn provides a more accurate reading.
I also didn’t realise that the definition of a “fever” changes as our little one’s grow so it’s great to see that the Braun ThermoScan 7 has three age groups to choose from so that a more accurate temperature can be taken. I also think it’s quite handy that you are made to select the age group before taking any temperatures. It means you really are getting the most accurate temperature reading that corresponds to the correct age group.
Another thing I learnt when trying out the Braun ThermoScan 7 was just how important it is to get a temperature reading from someone’s ear. The ear actually shares the blood supply of the brains temperature control centre so is able to provide an extremely accurate reading of the body’s core temperature providing peace of mind that you are receiving a truly accurate reading.
Overall thoughts
The overall look and feel of the Braun ThermoScan 7 are really nice and it’s something that I’d definitely be happy to have on display in my nursery. The storage cradle means that the thermometer is easily accessible and the storage case can also be wall mounted if you’ve got the space.
There’s also something reassuring about the fact that it looks and feels like the thermometer’s that doctors use and also that Braun are known to be Australia’s number one brand in ear thermometers.
Recommendation
Overall, I would definitely recommend the Braun ThermoScan 7.
Its ease of use means that I feel confident I’m receiving an accurate reading and provides peace of mind with the in-ear location and Age-Smart technology.
Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
