First Impressions and Experience

As a new mum, I was due to give birth to my daughter at the start of the dreaded cold and flu season this year and with that knowledge, the previous Braun Thermoscan model was one of my first health care purchases. Being able to track your baby’s temperature quickly and accurately when you suspect they may be under the weather, not only gives you peace of mind, it is vital information that you can provide to your healthcare professional should you need to.

When I had the opportunity to trial the Braun ThermoScan 7, I was already confident with Braun’s Thermometers and could see the benefits of the new improvements as soon as we used it. What really stood out for me is the AgeSmart function that allows you to adjust the age range of your child. Great for growing bubs and families with older children.

The colour coded display is a simple and innovative feature of the AgeSmart function that gives you an instant guide to your child’s temperature, making it easier to interpret a normal, moderate or high temperature when you may already have your hands full with an unwell baby. A green screen indicates a normal temperature. The amber screen may indicate a moderate fever. The red screen indicates a higher fever.

Using the Braun ThermoScan 7 is made easy with the ExacTemp light that illuminates to show that you have correctly placed the ear probe. Great for tiny ears and wriggling bubs. Or, when you don’t want to wake a sleeping infant. Simply press the power button and place the probe (with clean cover) gently into the ear. The ExacTemp indicator will light up and you will get an accurate reading just seconds after pressing the start button. The memory function ensures that you are able to go back and double check your last result

Pros:

No set up required. The Braun ThermoScan 7 comes with 2 AA batteries already in place, and 20 disposable lens filters/probe covers so you can start using it as soon as you take it out of the box.

The cone shaped ear probe is pre warmed for a more accurate reading and allows for gentle placement into the ear.

The extra lens filters fit snugly into the base ensuring easy access to a clean one when you need it.

AgeSmart colour coded display and age options assist with interpreting temperature ranges for the entire family.

The new memory function stores the last 9 temperature readings so you can track your baby’s progress easily.

A convenient night light will turn on when you press any button and will stay on until the thermometer has been inactive for 15 seconds. This illuminates the display clearly and reduces the need to disturb your baby with extra lights.

The lens filter reminder on the display screen is a useful prompt to ensure you have a clean filter in place prior to each use. After you have taken a temperature reading, the quick release trigger under the ear probe ensures easy disposal of the used filter.

Low battery indicator gives you time to replace the batteries before they become too low to take a new reading.

AA batteries eliminate the need for charging cables and power outlets making the Braun ThermoScan 7 completely portable when you need it and new batteries are easy to find.

Cons:

The only down side to this product is the use of consumables. Most households with children will already know the importance of having extra batteries on hand. My advice would be to pick up an extra pack or 2 of lens filters when you buy your thermometer to ensure you have plenty when you need them

Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
