Trying to conceive isn’t always an easy journey, especially when it comes to pinpointing your most fertile window. Usually, your body will give you some hints that you are about to ovulate such as cervical mucus changes, tender breasts, cramps, light spotting and changes in the cervix. But what if you find it hard to read these clues? You could monitor your basal temperature, which is time-consuming, or you can simply test your saliva with the BabyStart Ovulation microscope.

The BabyStart Ovulation microscope is a brilliant ovulation predictor for many reasons – for starters, it’s re-usable!
You don’t need to buy more packets of tests every month.  It will last you as long as your conception journey lasts (which according to average figures, can take up to a year).

It’s not a urine test, so there’s no ‘peeing on a stick’ – just a simple, convenient saliva sample that can be done anywhere at any time.

How does it work?

To understand ovulation let’s get technical.  When you are due to ovulate your saliva forms a distinct fern-shape pattern from an increase in hormone levels. By using the BabyStart Ovulation microscope you are able to see the fern-like shape, which can appear from around 2 days before ovulation and 2 days after ovulation.

Using the microscope is simple. You simply take a drop of your saliva and place it on the lens and allow it to dry for about five minutes. Finally, by pressing the LED light button and turning the eyepiece to focus the lens you will be able to see your saliva on the lens. If you don’t see a fern pattern it means you are not ovulating just yet, try again for the next few days.

If you see a strong fern pattern, this indicates that you are about to ovulate and should have intercourse within the next 24 – 48 hours.

The best time to use the microscope is first thing in the morning, but it can still used at any time of the day for accurate results. Be sure to test at the same time each day, and wait two hours after eating, drinking, smoking or brushing your teeth before taking the test.

It’s important to note that you shouldn’t apply too much saliva to the microscope lens, as it will take longer to dry. Make sure you clean the lens after every use with a paper towel or lens cleaner.
