Six Things That Are Great About Bottle Feeding

As new Mums, we all know that breast feeding is the best option, but it doesn’t always work out. For some Mums, it can be a difficult decision to introduce bottle feeding. So here are a few reminders about some of the things that are great about bottle feeding.

Here are six things that are great about bottle feeding

  1. You can continue to bond with your baby while bottle feeding. By sitting comfortably, cuddling your baby close to you while you feed will ensure they feel nurtured, and you may even enjoy some eye contact whilst they take their bottle. Your partner will be able to enjoy this bonding experience also.
  2. You can keep track of how much milk your baby has had throughout the day, which makes it easier to rule out hunger if they are unsettled. An excellent guide for how much formula your baby needs, by weight, can be found here.
  3. You can be as mobile with bottle feeding as you can with breast feeding. Preparing bottles in advance means you can go out for the day as long as you pack enough bottles for the day.
  4. If your baby has a sensitive tummy, there are plenty of choices of formula that cater to babies with different requirements. There is dairy-based formulas, soy-based, goat-milk based and hydrolysed protein-based formulas. So you will be able to find the right formula for your baby here.
  5. Everyone can be involved in feeding the baby; your partner, your mother or sister, even your older children. It’s a wonderful way for everyone to feel part of it and it can be a great help to you.
  6. You can also do a combination of both breast and bottle feeding. Topping up with formula is an excellent way to keep breast feeding going but also offers you some flexibility. This will give you a little more freedom, particularly if you are returning to work.

There are lots of benefits to bottle feeding, and sometimes we just need to be reminded of that. It’s also worth remembering that however you choose to feed your baby, you’re doing a great job!
