Pregnancy Symptoms at 12 weeks Pregnant

The baby growing in your 12 week pregnant belly is now around 6 centimetres long and weighs about 30 grams. The face is continuing to take shape and nails appear on the fingers and toes. During the 12 week ultrasound, you will see the baby’s organs, limbs, muscles, and bones are all fully developed.

Changes to Your Body:

Your uterus starts to shift northwards in your pelvis this week and you may get the beginnings of a baby bump, especially if this isn’t your first pregnancy.

Many women also experience a surge of progesterone and estrogen, as a result of this you may find your breasts expanding and you could go up a bra size or even two.

Your vision may also become blurry. The extra fluid your body retains during pregnancy can slightly distort your sight. Your
eyesight should go back to normal after your baby is born but it’s important to be careful when driving.

Lifestyle Considerations:

As you are near the end of the first trimester of pregnancy this is an ideal time to break the news to your boss and any friends or
family members who you haven’t told.

General Advice:

If you get a negative reaction to your pregnancy news, try not to let it upset you. The news of someone else’s pregnancy
can be confronting to friends or colleagues who may be trying to get pregnant themselves or have recently suffered a loss.

For some women with a 12 weeks pregnant belly, the baby’s sex is fairly easy to tell via the ultrasound technician. However, for most soon-to-be mums getting a 12 week ultrasound gender may not be obvious. You must decide before going into the appointment whether you want to know if it is a boy or girl or whether you would rather have the gender be a surprise when the baby is born.
