Victorian couple deemed unfit for IVF

A court has denied a Victorian couple access to IVF, ruling it would not be in the best interest of a child.

The couple, who plan to marry, lost a baby to SIDS in 2010 and have been trying to conceive a child together ever since, news.com.au reports.

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal found the mother, known as TRV, had a concerning parenting history, including emotional abuse, medical and environmental neglect and exposure to family violence.

The disability pensioner and her partner, a fulltime security guard known as TPW, have 10 children, aged 15 to 36, from previous relationships.

Couples in Victoria must prove they are fit to be parents in order to gain access to IVF.

News.com.au reports that child protection officials have previously removed four children from TRV’s custody, which lead to the case being referred to VCAT.
