Shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton welcomes baby boy

Professional surfer and shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton has given birth to a baby boy.

Hamilton announced the news of her baby’s June 1 arrival on her Facebook page.

“Blessed to welcome our son, Tobias, into the world,” she wrote.

According to the post, Tobias – weighing in at 7.9 pounds and 21 inches long – was named after his great grandpa whose name means “the goodness of God”.

The 25-year-old married Christian Youth minister Adam Dirks in 2013.

“Adam and I so in love with our lil guy and are stoked to share life with him!”

Hamilton was 13 when she lost her left arm in that shark attack while surfing off the coast of Kauai, Hawaii.

The accident didn’t stop Bethany from doing what she loves though, returning to the sport just one year after the attack.

Her incredible story was the inspiration behind the 2011 movie Soul Surfer.
